Heat Treat 16" to 20" piece

Heat Treat 16" to 20" piece.  Yes, it's expensive.  I hate these long blades.  They warp easily, are difficult to coat with anti-scale - difficult to safely get out of the kiln and into the quench and they won't fit in my tempering kilns, so I have to tie up a hardening kiln for 6 hours to temper them.  If you really need them done, I'll do it for you, but you will be making a significant contribution to the toupee I may soon need.  'Nuff said!

Heat Treat prices are based on length of the piece because our biggest expense is the double foil wrap we use. Blades done here come out nice and clean. The plate quenched ones can often be finished with no more than the buffer. If you'd like a look at out process, check out the EvenHeat Website and scroll down to Ranger Original.  This is a custom service and we heat treat to your specs.  We now do oil quench steels as well (same prices).
Note:  We rarely damage a blade.  It does happen.  If we do, we will not charge and we will replace your steel with the closest thing we have available.  We cannot replace your labour.  Sorry.
EXTRA NOTE;  Fillet blades in this range are my nemesis.  Expect warping.  Best practice is to profile and drill only before heat treat - and even this is not fool-proof.  Keep cool when ginding bevels after HT.
This size range ( 16" to 20" length) is intended for large kitchen, survival and some camp knives.  (Note: 20" is our max so we stay away from the coils at the back of the kiln.
