D2 Tool Steel
This is the traditional alloy that planer blades are often made from and knife enthusiasts have long respected for it's ability to take a very fine edge. It is rumoured that some makers can put and edge on this steel so fine that, hairs on your forearm will run away in fear long before the blade gets close enough to cut them. :-)
Note, that some of this is Precision Ground (marked PG) and some is just oversize mill finished (much less expensive)
